Radon in well water
Radon can come from your well water, too
If your home is on a private well, radon in the water can be released into the air when you shower, wash dishes or do laundry. We find out where your radon is coming from, and we install Airwell systems when the water is the source.
How it works
Radon in water becomes radon in your air
Radon from the rock around your well dissolves into the groundwater.
When the water is aerated, like in a shower or at a tap, dissolved radon is released from the water and can transfer into the air you breathe.
Measuring your air captures radon from every source, so we fix the right thing first.
What Health Canada says: “Groundwater can contribute to radon concentrations in indoor air.” “Measuring the air will capture the contributions from all sources of radon and enable better decisions for management strategies.” Source: Health Canada, Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality: Radiological Parameters
Our process
Soil gas first, then the water
Health Canada recommends testing the air in your home. It captures radon from every source, including your water.
If your levels are high, we mitigate the radon coming from the soil under your home first. That is where most radon comes from.
We take a water sample and send it to the lab, and we can monitor radon levels in your bathroom with your shower times noted, to see whether the water is the source.
If your well water is the source, we install an Airwell system, then test your air and your water again to confirm.
Our services
Testing and treatment
- Radon in water testing: we collect a water sample, send it to the lab, and explain your results
- Bathroom monitoring with shower times noted, to confirm whether the water is a source
- Airwell system installation, led by C-NRPP certified professionals
- Air and water testing after the install, to confirm the results
Airwell is a radon-in-water treatment system by Radon Environmental, installed where your water enters your home.

Questions homeowners ask
Should I test my well water for radon?
Usually not first. Test the air in your home. If your levels are high, we mitigate the soil gas first. If they're still high after that, we look at your water.
Does my regular well water test check for radon?
No. Testing well water for radon is a special test with its own sampling process. It isn't part of the usual organic or inorganic water tests done on wells.
How long does it take?
It can take up to a few weeks, from the water test and lab results to the install.
Do you install Airwell systems?
Yes. Request an Airwell consultation and we'll email you a short questionnaire about your home and your well.
